The shipbuilding market is on slow but constant evolution. Shipyards and owners are constantly watching the new technologies and the growth of the products available on the market.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic that brought this sector to a challenging position for many months, the invention of new products that can change the design approach of ships has not stopped.
Sometimes the switch to the “new” is problematic. New things scare the people; the design and engineer approach is a constant fight between the new and better solutions and to keep it “as is” to avoid any possible issues.
With the new technologies growing, the projects are rising both in number and in size. Many new systems that are installed on the projects demand vast quantities of electrical cables and different types of pipe.
In all this heavy sea of options and personal sensation, STI Marine Firestop is an excellent beacon to support the demands of new solutions. We can adapt our products to these solutions.
EZ Path® Marine Cable Transits is a clear example of STI Marine Firestop being committed to using the most up-to-date technology in all vessels.
The use of the device onboard cruise ships has indicated the necessity to adapt to the most extensive installation, both in the number of devices and in size.
The EZ Path® MDM150 series can accommodate cables using one single gang and up to six gang.
This evolution in size shows how products are needed to meet customer requests. It is evident for the market, but not when the products are related to fire safety. Every type needs to be tested and certified.
Another evolution that affected our products for cable management with the MMR MPACT Retrofit Sleeve.
This system has been developed following an exciting request to refit some electrical passages realized with MCT (Multi-Cable Transit) without removing the welded frame from the division. Moreover, the design had to satisfy the demand to install the system without welding. The MCT features a frame which we designed the MMR Sleeves to be inserted into if they want to replace the system with our MPACT System.
After completing the design of this peculiar system adapted to different types and sizes of MCT, we received another customer request to use the MMR, but without the presence of the MCT frame welded to the division.
STI Marine Firestop started the process to develop the solution required, giving birth to MMS MPACT Marine sleeve (coming soon!). Recently, this device has been for ABS class society for full application on A 60 and watertight class divisions.
The MMS MPACT Marine Sleeve will be available in two different sizes, the equivalent to #S6 and #S8 MCT frame, for new applications. These products are useful in new shipbuilding or refit construction where the welding is difficult or not allowed.
All of STI Marine’s products and systems are subject to Type Approvals from major classification agencies such as DNV GL, Lloyds Register, ABS, BV, as well as approvals by USCG and MED. To learn more about our full range of Marine products and solutions, visit https://www.stimarine.com/products.
